Local or Foreign Security Guard? Empty
PostSubject: Local or Foreign Security Guard?   Local or Foreign Security Guard? EmptyTue Apr 21, 2009 4:08 am

Hi there,

I would like to post a question of discussion here where i need your opinion.

Do we prefer local security guard or a foreign one like from Vietnam or something?

You have to know the pros and cons on these 2 'species'

Local Security Guard:
1) They are local and tend to take things for granted knowing they are a local and finding a job is easy to them.
2) Tend to be lazy as some of the current local security guards have been change numerious time due to this issue. They always seen dozing off and have long breaks.
3) They tend to have a lot of petty personal issues like dog sick, cat sick, unable to wake up, and bla bla bla.
4) They tend to wonder off when no one is around to look over them as they are locals and therefore, have a lot of friends and partners to hang around.
5) The hiring fee are cheaper compare to foreign one.

Foreign Security Guard:
1) More diligent in doing their work as they come to our country to work and earn enough money to send back to their family.
2) They are more hard working as they want to work and not to be fired.
3) They don't have enough friends locally to have bad influenced in their job
4) Not many personal issue as they are here on personal term, so there is no local commitment to tend to.
5) They are expensive, might cost double just to hire them compare to local ones.
6) Might have language issue as they might not be able to speak of local language well.

1. Why not just "outsource" the security work to the specialist e.g. those security companies. They would have properly trained security guard and the company accountable for security work within terms and conditions. If the price is fair, why not?

2. If the "outsource" option is way beyond budget, then I would prefer foreign worker as security guard. I doubt that they would cost 2 times as exy as local ones. But I may be wrong. The biggest "advantage" I see is that they would need to secure their own job by being hardworking. I definitely don't like to see security guards take things for granted as if he's the landlord for the whole premise, being rude to visitor, allowing their friends, relatives to go in hanging around.

Hi Eric,

If i'm not mistaken, now our security guard is kinda outsource already since they are under one security company but somehow, they seem like not so professional at all. The price is ok but depending on the quality also coz the local one are cheaper and none local one are much more expensive.

We would need to brain-storm again on this as its not easy as it looks.

Yes, we need to brainstorm about security guard and probably define their role and responsibility.

Be it local or foreign security guard, one of the thing I would like to see is that we should hire security guard on contractual basis (one year or two years, renewable). So with that, we can do audit within Vistabay owners twice a year. The committe would then evaluate those feedback/suggestions etc and decide whether we should renew the contract of the security guard.

If we hire somebody as permanent, then it's hard to do audit with corrective action already.

Just my personal thought.
